From Sheltering Wings - Real Love Respects
Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
Healthy love isn’t just saying "I love you" and sending heart emojis. It’s showing up with trust, honesty and respect.
During Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM) 2026, we want all youth to understand that Real Love Respects.
In Feburary, you can join Sheltering Wings and the national TDVAM campaign through LoveIsRespect.org to reinforce the message that respect in a relationship isn’t a bonus. It’s a requirement.
Healthy love is built on mutual respect and understanding. That means honoring your boundaries, your feelings, your choices, and everything that makes you authentically you.
You can help reinforce a message of respect for the young people in your life - whether it's your kids, grandkids, nieces/nephews, neighbors, or teens in your community.
Teens are not immune from domestic abuse. The statistics are grim:
- 1 in 3 has been verbally, emotionally or physically abused by a dating partner
- 1 in 10 high school students experienced physical violence from a dating partner in the past year
- 1 in 11 Indiana high school students report being physically forced to have sex
Local high school students can learn more about respect and healthy relationships at the annual Hop 4 Hope event, sponsored by the Sheltering Wings Teens That Talk Youth Council.
Hop 4 Hope will be Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Urban Air in Plainfield, from 4:30 to 8 pm. The event includes trampolines, dodgeball tournaments, and free pizza. Open to all Hendricks County high school students. Admission is free, but a $10 donation is suggested. Register at ShelteringWings.org/Teens.
Respect is everything. It’s earned. It’s honest. It never makes you question your worth.
